Happy Friday! How are we all doing today? Pretty good over here! I am just about to wrap up my day at work before I head to the airport to pick up my parents. They are coming into town to see me and spoil me
Recently, I have become very close with my parents, even though I only see them a few times a year. We have been talking on the phone a lot more and I think the distance had made our relationship stronger. Anyone else experienced this? I’d love to hear your thoughts! When I lived at home before college, I think I took my parents for granted because I saw them every single day. Now that I am gone, I have learned to appreciate them more and their love for me. Sorry to be so sappy
I am going to make this post short and sweet because I am actually about to get off of work in a few minutes. Then I need to get to the airport to pick them up!
I stayed up too late again and I was tired again this morning. When am I going to learn? At least it’s the weekend and I can sleep in the next two days
Time: 1:27
Distance: 11.01 miles
Average Pace: 7:54 per mile
Even though I stayed up too late again, I wasn’t all that tired this morning. I think in the back of my head I knew that this was the last day I had to get up at 5 AM this week, so it was less of a challenge to get up. Life is seriously 100% mental. If you believe in something, that is going to make it so much easier. Trust me.
Those recovery socks worked their magic again
If you don’t have a pair, I highly suggest you get one. My legs felt great after running 14 miles yesterday! They didn’t feel perfect, but I wasn’t expecting them to. I was actually feeling good enough to add an extra mile or so to my usual 10 mile loop. I had the time and I was feeling great, so why not? I love it when that happens!
Because of this post on With A Side of Sneakers, I have started reading Born to Run! I got through the first 100 pages today at work and I am HOOKED. I plan on writing a little review when I am done!
Have you read it? What did you think?
Have a good weekend everyone!

I can totally relate to this post! I’ve become very close with my parents since I left for college four years ago. I talk to my mom on a daily basis, and I truly enjoy their company:)
Have fun tonight–wherever you choose to dine!
totally agreed that life is mental. outlook on things is key! i also agree that when i was at school my relationship with them was made stronger. this summer probably killed that but luckily i’m moving out soon hahah. HAVE FUN! and i hope you get to get very spoiled
That’s a way cute pic of your family! I’ve never heard of that book, but I’m definitely gonna see if it’s in the library next time I go. It seems like something I would like.
I really want to read that book. A few people have recommended it…and I just bought a pair of Vibrams. I’m not going to run in them, but the whole concept is very intriguing to me. Enjoy time with your family!
My husband read that book and then switched to wearing Vibram 5 Finger shoes when he runs. I’m sure you’ll love the book.
When I went away for college the same thing happened to me: I became closer to my family. We talked on the phone more, emailed, etc. And when I came home on a weekend we would spend alot of time together. It was great (and you weren’t sappy at all!)
Are you at U of Alabama in Tuscaloosa? My sister went to graduate school there a few years ago. It is a beautiful campus!
I’ve heard great things about that book! I need to pick it up sometime in the near future….have fun with the family! I’m spending some quality time with my dad over the next couple days as we roadtrip it out west.
I really enjoyed Born to Run — so many great anecdotes from fascinating running personalities, and I loved the stuff on human evolution. Have a blast with the folks!
haven’t read it..have fun with your family
I definitely understand becoming closer with your parents after moving away…I was very close with my parents to start with, and now it’s weird if I go more than two days without talking to one of my parents. I miss them! I hope they take you to Whole Foods.
I haven’t read Born to Run yet, although I own it! Gotta work on that…
I’m the same way with my mom. My dad and I have never had the closest relationships, but I noticed that my mom and I got considerably closer.
I understand completely. I moved out of home very young, and my relationship with my parents now is so special. I think becuse we dont see each other that often, we really make the most of it when we do!!
Have a great weekend with the fam. I haven’t seem mine since Christmas, and I probably won’t see them again until this Christmas. I miss them a lot and enjoy our phone conversations every Saturday.
Never read Born to Run, but I’ve heard of it. Sounds like it should go on my list.
I think the relationship with our parents just becomes stronger as we get older. Maybe it’s maturity?? I don’t know, I don’t like to think about it too much b/c then that means I’m OLD!!!
Have a great weekend!
i lived with my parents for a few months about a year after i finished my BA. after that we’ve been more like friends – doing fun and goofy things together that i never would have imagined them doing at all, let alone with their daughter!
Can’t wait to read the review. I’ve heard of the book but am not even sure what it’s about really…?
That is so endearing, truly, about you and your parents. Makes me wish I had a relationship. But, alas, life isn’t as simple as that.
Enjoy your weekend – oh and where do you work that you can read ?!!
Since I went away to school and have since graduated, I have become so much closer with with my family. Since you get to be with them less, the more meaningful each conversation and visit becomes. Have a great weekend man and have an awesome time with your family. And get some good free food!!
I can relate to becoming more close to your family when going off to college. While at UA I was only about 40 minutes from home and now at Montevallo, I’m 2 hours away. Even though this isn’t that very far things have definitely changed. My mom and I talk almost everyday just to catch up and check in. I have always been really close to my family, but since going to college we make more of an effort to talk and stuff. Also, when I do go home and visit I appreciate my time there more. I love going home for holidays, sleeping in my old room, and just hanging out with my family all day. Sounds cheesy I sure, but I am definitely a family man.
oh i love that pic of you and your parents!!!! how cute….yes i feel the same way kind of nice to have some space with parents to appreciate them. never read that book….looks good!
