I am SO GLAD THIS RUN WAS OVER. IT WAS TOUGH!
Time: 2:39:44
Distance: 19.6 miles
Average Pace: 8:09 per mile
I thought about going to sleep around 8:00 last night but I got sucked into a movie and I stayed up another two hours. It was just so good! Has anyone seen Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince? Such a good movie! Luckily, I got a solid 8 hours of sleep and got up around 6:00 to pound out some miles for my long run.
I was up and 6:00 and out the door by 6:30ish. My goal was to get it done early so I could “work on my paper” for the rest of the morning. Yeah, I am sitting here and I have written about a paragraph in the last hour and a half. Twitter and Facebook are totally against me today.
I knew right from the get go that this was going to be tough. When your stomach starts grumbling for food after 2 miles and you still have another 18 to go, you know you are in for a long day. I ate something before I left, but it obviously wasn’t enough. I didn’t feel weak or shaky, but I could tell my stomach wanted something eat. Well it had to live without it for another 2 hours because I was determined to get this damn run down.
I actually felt really good from about mile 5 to 15. I forgot that I was hungry because I really got into the run. I was running downtown and there was a lot of people out, which is kind of weird for a Friday morning, but it kept me entertained. I also had some music with me that helped to pass the time.
Miles 15-19.6 were just a wee bit tough. I didn’t bring any water, so I was dehydrated. I also started to get hungry again, and this time it was in full force. At least I was almost done and it wasn’t too hard to push through. I knew that my long run would be over for the week and I could relax a little bit. This song came on the last mile and it really pumped me up:
Last mile was the fastest one. My pancakes never tasted so good
What songs pump you up?
Time to go!

Great run, speedy!! Journey pumped me up on my run yesterday
This may sound lame, but United States of Pop 2009 pumps me up, a lot! Its the first song on my workout playlist
Nothing revs my engine more than rap! Way to pump them out BEAST!
Honestly, I listen to nothing but my own thoughts because I have yet to invest in a good set of headphones for my ipod.
Sometimes this works out well, but other times (when my energy is flagging or I’m just not “feeling it”) I could seriously use the extra pep.
Love that song.
Matty…favor please? I bought sweet potatoes….I don’t typically like sweet potatoes except in chip form…but you tweet about them SO much…you made me want to buy them and make fries or something.
Care to share a sweet potato-ish recipe??? Pretty please?!?!
And I still owe you cookies.
And pump up song: Tom Petty – Won’t back down or… The Beatles – Ob-la-di Ob-la-da. Other good one for cooldown is The Nadas – Run In Place.
Do you have a marathon coming up? Not that you need one to do 20-milers or anything…
I love that AAR song! It’s one of my favorites to sing on Rockband too
