Freezing My Tail Off!

by Matt on January 9, 2010

I am finally back in Alabama! Thank God! The last few days at home were a little hostile with my mom. I think we were both really starting to get on each others nerves and things were starting to get dangerous. It looks like I got out just in the knick of time.

My day started early AGAIN when I woke up at 5:30 AM to make my 8:30 AM flight. I am really glad we had time to stop at Starbucks because it was much needed. I am running on fumes over here in the sleep department. The past three days I have woken up at 4:30, 5:30, and 5:30. That really isn’t that bad, but I haven’t been getting to sleep early enough to make up for it. There has just been so much to do! It has been worth it though no doubt, especially with the Rose Bowl.

Luckily, everything this afternoon went just as planned. My plane was on time, I got my car, unpacked, did all of my errands (Including a $160 Whole Foods trip sorry dad!), unpacked, and went on an awesome, but FREEZING, run.

Saturday Afternoon Run

Time: 1:32:02

Distance: 11.8 miles

Average Pace: 7:48 per mile

I have no idea how I lasted an hour and a half in that arctic weather!

Ughhh… Today was the dreaded afternoon run. I hate running in the afternoon, especially when it is just as cold as it is in the morning. I think this might have been one of my coldest runs to date. It was around 25 with a wind chill of 13. Brrr! That is cold for this Southern boy! I had on my tights, an Under Armour base layer, my brand new Nike jacket, gloves, and a hate. My core was quite warm thanks to my new jacket though; I seriously love that thing. It was worth every single over priced penny that I paid for it. However, my hands, face, and feet were pretty much numb for most of the run. I think I need some thicker socks and some new gloves. I don’t own that type of gear because it never really gets that cold here, so I will probably just have to suck it up for a few more days until this front moves through and it warms up. I don’t really want to spend money on something I will wear a few days a year, you know what I mean?

Other that freezing my tail off, I actually had a really good run. My legs are still a little tired from all of the walking + standing that I have done for the past few days because of all of the traveling, but it really didn’t affect me all that much. Once my blood starting pumping, I felt great :) Hopefully some R & R tomorrow will let me catch up on a little rest and get ready to start class on Monday.

I am actually ready to get back to class, see my friends, and get back into a routine. I had a nice relaxing break, but it is time to get back to the grind and get to work!

i just ran outside in the freeezing weather, too (supposedly it’s 12 here with the wind chill). the coldness always makes my knees kill after running..no clue why.

hopefully it warms up soon!

Brr! I can only run when it’s cold outside if my head and hands are toasty warm.
