Today was the White Rock Half Marathon that I was planning on doing. I was suppose to be home by now, but I am stuck with a few shifts at work this coming week and I am not going home until Friday. I wanted to do the race, but it just wasn’t feasible for me fly home on Friday after my test and fly right back for work. I probably could have given up my shifts at work this week, but I felt guilty trying to get subs for three shifts. My boss is pretty strict and I didn’t really want to talk to him about it. I know it is Christmas break, but part of the job obligation is working during breaks. People pay money to use our facilities and it has to stay open even when classes are not in session.
This was actually my sister’s first half! She wanted me to run it with her, but obviously that didn’t happen. She finished in 2:04:xx which is awesome time for her first half marathon. Woo hoo!
Since I didn’t get to run White Rock today, I did my own half marathon
Time: 1:44:26
Distance: 13.1 miles
Average Pace: 7:58 per mile
I slept in today until the glorious hour of 8:20. That might be record for this year! Haha probably not… But pretty close regardless. I rarely sleep past 8:00; maybe only a few times per year. I know I know… That is just the way I am… I did get 10 hours of sleep last night though. I passed out early with a shot of Nyquil because I felt like I was getting sick. My throat was starting to get that feeling and I sort of had a headache. It was probably from running in the cold rain that morning… I woke up a new man though. Nyquil is seriously the gift from the Gods. It ALWAYS makes me feel better the next day!
I set out around 11:00 with intentions of taking it easy and not racing it. I did run 18 miles yesterday, and my legs were exactly “springy”. They weren’t shot (they are now), but they weren’t exactly full of pep either.
The weather was much better today; it was around 50 degrees, cloudy, and slightly breezy. That is AWESOME running weather in my opinion. It is the perfect weather for shorts and t-shirt without getting too hot or too cold. I was actually quite warm at the end though and I was a sweaty mess. I love that feeling though; it makes me feel like I had a great workout.
The first few miles were quite slow and I felt very stiff when I first started. My legs were protesting that they were sore and tired, but I trudged on. I got my first wind around mile 3 and felt great until about mile 9 or so when I hit a little bit of a wall. Luckily that only lasted about a mile or so and I got my second wind shortly after. At this point I was running at a pretty good clip (I think around 7:20 miles) and I actually though about adding another loop. I was actually starting to get hungry though and I didn’t want to push the mileage too much today. Today, food > another loop. Haha.
The rest of the day was spent taking a nap, doing laundry, and watching TV. I love lazy Sundays, but for me it isn’t really a Sunday because I don’t have class tomorrow. I also met a new girl that lives in my building while she was out walking her dog. I keep meeting all of these girls, but nothing ever seems to work out. Either I am picky or I have bad luck! Haha.
I <3 Christmas Break.
See you guys tomorrow!
