I Could Use More Days Like This…

by Matt on December 12, 2009

I had a really great day so far! Here is what I have done:

  • Slept in until 7:30. For me that is sleeping in since I usually wake up at 5:00 during the week. Should I try for 8:00 tomorrow?
  • Made some french toast for breakfast.
  • Relaxed.
  • Ran 18 miles (keep reading).
  • Went to Whole Foods.
  • Ate lunch at Whole Foods. I am addicted to the hot bar over there.
  • Made some epic sweet potato gnocchi (recipe coming tomorrow).
  • And now I am just relaxing. I may go over to a friends later; I am not sure yet.

Saturday Long Run

Time: 2:21:01

Distance: 18.08 miles

Average Pace: 7:48 per mile (what!?) ;)

It felt nice to sleep in, enjoy my coffee and breakfast, and relax a little bit before running this morning. I could really get used to this :) The one thing that I dislike about my routine during the week is that I don’t have time to enjoy my coffee and I have to scarf down my breakfast in about 5 minutes before class. I like to take things a little slower in the morning because my days are always so hectic, but I guess it’s just something that I gotta do right?

My morning was great, but unfortunately the weather wasn’t so great. I am actually having a competition with Mica about who can complain the most about the weather since we both bitch about it during every single post. It was 36 degrees, windy, and raining. Can it get much worse? I got pretty soaked the first few miles and that “chill to bone” feeling for the rest of the run since I was wet. I really hate the cold + wet combo. I can do cold + dry, but cold + wet is miserable.

Even though the weather completely sucked, I had a great time on this run. I only hated the first few miles, but after that, I really found a groove both physically and mentally. I WANTED to be out there and no kind of weather was going to stop me from enjoying myself. On a normal day, I would have cut it short, but today was different. I really really wanted to do a long run and I loved every single second of it. The best part was that I didn’t have to take an ice bath after it ;) I actually took about a 30 minute hot shower.

Ah I seriously love runs like this…

What is your most memorable run?

You’re on. Just wait until the Illinois winter is in FULL FORCE up here. Also, I am really good a complaining. I’m an only child, after all.

That said, that really is miserable weather. At least running makes you warm!

can weather get worse? Well actually, it can. It was -4 this morning when I got in my car to go to the gym…I have no choice but to run on the tredmill. You should come up here and give the -4 air a shot :) haha I would kill for some 36 degrees right now!
Glad you had a relaxing morning!!! Doesnt it feel nice to get a break!?

I might instead post after my trip and do daily recaps seperately. Like on Thursday I will write about Monday etc etc. Just to save me time…bc it takes 2 hrs just to post those damn recaps hahaha

heh 36* is nothing. i’d take that in a split second :) but props to you for wanting to go out in it. sometimes the hardest part for me is convincing myself that the cold is worth it haha (and it is every time!)

“On a normal day, I would have cut it short.” I’m calling you out on this…NOT TRUE. Matt? Cut a run short? Never! That being said…sounds like an awesome day, minus the bad weather. I think Mica might win…I’ve spent many winters in Illinois and they can be rough!
