Weekly Run-Down: 9/28/09-10/4/09

by Matt on October 5, 2009

Time: 8:27:32

Distance: 66.07 miles

Average Pace: 7:41 per mile

That is how you taper :)

I guess that is tapering right? I did run less than normal and I actually felt pretty good for most of the week. I guess it was more one of those “reduced mileage weeks” (what is that?). I can’t remember the last time I had one of those actually, so I will mark last week as a success.

I think the important thing is that my legs are feeling pretty good. They are feeling better than they have in a long time so I think I am on the right track. My thoughts on the other hand are very very nervous. I can’t believe it is already race week. I feel so underprepared it is insane. This is going to be a long week!

Taper Week 2

Monday: Rest Done (It was easy!)

Tuesday: 6 miles

Wednesday: 8 miles

Thursday: 6 miles

Friday: 4 miles (Did I really just type that?)

Saturday: Probably nothing. I am not sure if I want to run an easy 2 miles or something. Thoughts?

Sunday: 26.2

Post marathon week will include some shuffling.

Congrats on the taper!! I would actually do an easy mile or two the day before your marathon… I always race better if I get my legs moving a little bit the day before. Good luck this weekend!! I can’t wait to hear what killer time you run!

i’m sure the rest day was sooooooo easy haha.

and i think that if you can stick to 2 miles (and NO MORE) than it might be ok for a mental sanity check. you definitely dont need those miles and if you end up doing more than youll likely regret it during the race. but i went out for 1 mile for the mental aspect and the fact that i was having shoe drama.

but you must be getting really excited!

I’ve done both running the day before marathon and not running before…not sure there’s much of a difference. I say you might as well run the two miles if you can hold yourself to an easy easy two…for someone like you, just being able to run a short distance will probably help keep you calm.
Same as Holly…I’ll be looking to track you!

Why do you feel unprepared? Obviously, you’re run a ton of miles in preparation. I think you’ll be okay!

yes, you are soo underprepared running 66 miles in a taper week. puh-lease!

dude you’ve run 100 miles in a week. that’s practically 4-marathons right there. doubt there will be much shuffling post-race! :)

Good luck with the race this weekend. You’ve certainly logged the miles to be more than prepared!

I agree with everything in all of the other comments. You are more than prepared for this race and you are going to do awesome. I normally run a couple of miles the day before the race just to loosen up my legs and get rid of nerves but it is super sloooow and easy. Take a couple of deep breaths and try to not stress too much…this is going to be fun!

I bet getting through this week will be harder for you than the actual marathon!
