Taper Time!

by Matt on September 27, 2009

Time: 1:18:18

Distance: 10.03 miles

Average Pace: 7:48 per mile

Today was probably (I may do an easy 10-12 next weekend) my last double digit run until the marathon. Kind of sad. The next 2 weeks are taper taper taper…

It was a great last push though. The one highlight was the weather. It was decently cool, breezy, and surprisingly not humid. Weird because it poured rain all day yesterday. Hopefully Fall is finally here and the summer is over. I love the summer, but I hate the heat and humidity.

I actually thought about going farther today, but I decided against it. That is really unlike me isn’t it? I am actually really ready for this taper. I’ve pushed pretty hard for the past few months training for this race and I am honestly ready for a mental and physical break from running. I’m not ready to stop running (hell no), but I am looking forward to decreasing my intensity and mileage for a few weeks. My body is honestly run down and needs some time to refresh before the race. We all need a break at some point.

Sadly, training has pretty much come to an end. The next two weeks will be super easy and a time to relax and repair. I am also looking forward to sleeping a little later!

So apparently, your blog and Google Reader are not playing nicely together. (It hasn’t updated with new posts since the 19th.)

I’m coming up to Chicago on Friday and probably heading to the Expo on Sunday. What about you?

Yay your posts showed up in google reader! I wonder what was going on…

You’ve had an awesome training cycle…you’re so ready for this marathon, and I can’t wait to see how you do! All the work is done…rest up now (hard for you, I know!), so you can reap the benefits on race day!

apparently google reader hates me because it just informed me that you’ve been posting this week. so after some massive catch-up i have to say: great training. youve put in the hard work and are ready. tapering sucks a lot so be prepared. and if it rains in chicago you will be MORE than ready for it with all your rain running these past few weeks

tapering is just as important as the past few months of hardcore training. time to rest those legs up so they are 100% fresh on race day! i’m glad you seem to be utilizing some self-control…..for now ;)
