It has been a killer weekend!
Saturday Long Run
Time: 2:01:00
Distance: 16.17 miles
Average Pace: 7:29 per mile
Wow that was a killer run. I will start from the beginning.
I woke up early to get my run in; around 5:30 so I could leave at 6:00. I had a banana with peanut butter and a cup of coffee and I was out the door. The weather started out nice and cool and it turned out to be a nice fall morning.
The first half was pretty uneventful. I was holding a steady 7:45 pace and it felt really easy. Once I finished my first 8 mile loop, I sped up and cruised around 7:15 for the rest of the run. I actually felt great for most of the run and I didn’t even need a Clif Shot or anything. I usually need one around mile 12 but today I felt fine. Good thing because I forgot them anyways! The only thing that got me was that I had to smell people cooking bacon for pretty much the whole run. It made me STARVING. I am out there running my tail off and people are sitting around eating bacon and eggs. Sometimes life isn’t fair. It was hard for me to watch people sitting out in front of their trailers while I am working my butt off. At least share the goods!
There were people EVERYWHERE too. On game day, the population of the town pretty much doubles. Everyone drives their RV and they campout overnight. I got a ton of staring at me while I was running by and it actually made me feel pretty good. Deep down I feel “different” somehow but it was a good feeling. Hard to explain.
Luckily I had some bacon in my apartment for breakfast. It was pancetta actually. Really good stuff.
After my run I hit up Whole Foods, Target, and took a nice nap. I had to get ready for the nights festivities!
I headed to a tailgating party a few hours before the game for free burgers and beer. Doesn’t get any better! Then we all went to game to watch Bama roll over FIU. It was actually a pretty close first half, but we blew them out in the 2nd. Roll Tide! I had a blast. I can’t wait to go to some more games.
After the game, we hit up Waffle House for some late night grub. I got an All Star Special with a double pecan waffle. Mmm…
That came back to bite me this morning…
Sunday Morning Shuffle
Time: 1:19:29
Distance: 10.05 miles
Average Pace: 7:54 per mile
I had some unfortunate intestinal issues during this run. I am not sure if it was the food from yesterday or what but it wasn’t pleasant. I won’t go into many details but let’s just say I am glad that the porta potties were still up from the game. I had a stomach ache most of the morning, but it passed eventually.
My legs were pretty sluggish as well for the first few mile. I was planning on an easy 8 miler, but my legs took 6 miles to warm up and it was already time to head back once I felt decent, so I added a little bit on to get a decent run in. I am actually glad I did because the last few miles weren’t too bad. Not bad, but not great. I am so glad I got my long run over with yesterday. I would have felt like hell running 16 today. I think that I am going to start running them on Saturday’s now to avoid this. Chill on Friday night, run long Saturday, party Saturday night, and shuffle Sunday. Sounds good to me!
And everyone thank Mara for my new header! She is awesome!

Nice header! That is a huge pile of shoes!!!
I always felt a little weird when I would run by OSU when people were tailgating. Eh, they’re probably just jealous that you actually run.
Ugh I get stomach issues sometimes too.. it actually happened to me during one of my races and I had to stop and use the bathroom… needless to say I wasted a few precious minutes in there!
I love the new header!!
Solid weekend of running. Next time you smell bacon, you should run around and steal it from people’s frying pans and grills are every possible opportunity. Then you can be the local running bacon bandit, which is a bad-ass title, for sure.
LOVE the way it looks!!! Glad you all like it too
there’s definitely something cool about running with the tailgaters. a couple years ago some friends and i did a point-to-point long run on opening game day, running with the incoming gameday traffic and finishing on campus with tailgaters. guess it kind of gives off the race atmosphere, except with drinking and grilling
