Today’s run was much better
I think all your wonderful comments yesterday spurred some motivation deep down inside of me. Today I actually felt like I could run a marathon. That is I could have kept going this morning for another 18 miles. I am ready to get up to Chicago and do some work!
I woke up and it was 52 degrees! What!? Yes, 52 degrees down here in Alabama. It was a total shock walking outside this morning; I haven’t felt that temperature in a loooooooooong time. I actually thought about wearing a long sleeve shirt this morning and I actually wish that I had. I was kind of cold…
It was a beautiful morning. It was cool, crisp, and breezy. I left at the perfect time to watch the sun rise as I was running down 10th Ave. runs right along the tree line and I got to see the sun poke it’s way out. It was breathtaking to be honest. Days like this make me LOVE running. Sometimes I hate running, but today was not one of those days.
And how was my body feeling? Eh, it is doing alright; just kind of hanging in there. Better than normal, but still a little tired. The good news is that I had to remind myself to slow down today; the past few weeks I have had to tell myself to speed up. To me that is a good sign. I looked at my Garmin a few times and saw 7:30’s. I do not need to be running that fast on a taper recovery run. I told myself to slow down and take it easy. I’ve still got two short tempo runs left, but the mileage will be reduced. Those are the only runs that I am allowed to run fast.
Everything else is going well. I’m on top of my schoolwork and everything here is going great. I am already ready for the weekend though. It seems like the weeks have been flying by though. I have just been so busy during the day that before I know it I am ready to relax. I’ve been getting most of my schoolwork done during the day to leave my nights open to just watch TV, cook, and relax a bit. That’s one thing I like about getting up early and getting my classes over with in the morning. It gives me the whole afternoon to do school related things and leaves my nights open. Most of my friends sleep all morning, go to class all afternoon, then they are stuck doing homework all night. I love getting an early start.
Are you a morning person or a night person?
I am definitely a morning person. I am ready to pass out by 10 or 11. I guess that is because I wake up at 5 though!

Now THIS is the Matt I like to hear from – keep hanging in there.
I’m definitely an early bird – give me the morning hours to thrive!
Glad that you had a good run today and that things are going GREAT for you right now
I like getting stuff done in the AM so I can relax at night too
hizzah for a good run!
count me in as a morning person. even if i didn’t get up so early to run, my brain is just more alert and i’m more productive before 9am. i lose steam throughout the day!
sounds like a perfect run. i looove running in the fall weather so much.
i am definitely a morning person, too. i love waking up and taking time to read blogs and chill with coffee before i start the day. i wish i still had the college schedule of time during the day to do my hw, though!
Good job! I can’t wait to feel some cool air – maybe in November or December. I love running in the crisp air.
I’m definitely a morning person! I’m not ashamed to admit that if I have to be up at 4:30 for a workout I have no problem going to bed at 9pm. I function much better with 7-8 hours sleep.
i am definitely an early bird – i like my early bedtimes and waking up feeling refreshed with the day ahead of me!
I am a morning person! Although I wake up earlier than most people I know, I don’t think I’m quite the early bird as you are. But I’m always ready to crash at 10 or 11. I feel like it is impossible to sleep in anymore. Plus it’s a waste of a perfect day!
It’s getting close!!!!! Glad you’re back to your old self!
I’m a morning person, though I’d be more of one if I didn’t hit my snooze button several times.
Ahh, what an awesome morning run! Those are priceless moments right there…the perfect sunrise run. It makes me happy just thinking about it.
Am I the only non-morning person in the blog world?? All of your commenters are morning people! I consider it to be waking up “early” if there aren’t double digits! I guess it’s good that I work the late shift. That being said, I *can* wake up early, I just don’t like it.
Hey, i just started writing a post about am or pm people!!
i am both. I love the night, love to stay up late, but i also love to wake up early and enjoy the day!
the chilly air definitely moved in quickly! i think it’s supposed to warm up a bit again though before it gets cold for real. it was 55 for me on my afternoon run yesterday – afternoon!!! the cooler air is refreshing, especially after sweating through the summer. glad you had a good run, bottle up that speed for chicago!
I love my mornings and continue to get up early to enjoy them even though I work afternoons and evenings.
I’ve done 13 of the recipes.
Actually, 15.
Wow, it seems like everyone was having awesome runs this morning, although I had to laugh when you said 52 was cold because I think that was our high today. I love getting up early and getting things done. You are pretty mature for a college student.
